EEI (Energy Efficiency Index), in other words Extended Product Approach, which means considering the product in its entirety: pump, motor and frequency converter if present.
This is the new approach by which Europump, and more specifically the JWG (Joint Working Group) that deals with pump and set efficiency, is aiming at additional energy saving in order to reach the CO2 emission reduction objectives set by the European Union.
Calpeda is taking part directly in the JWG working group, which deals with the creation of standards, but it is also among the experts of CEN (European Committee for Standardization), an institution entrusted with drawing up the standard themselves.
The commitment is actively continuing, and important goals have already been reached.
Firstly, the Extended Product Approach has already been officially extended to the whole sector, both pumps and more complex products like the pressure boosters.
Regarding the pumps, the procedure is already in a very advanced phase. The technical committee of CEN has sent the definitive drafts of the prEN 170381-1 and prEN 17038-2 standards so that they can be voted on by the national standardisation institutes and, if the vote is positive, the standards will be sent for publication.
As for the booster sets, we are in the creation phase of the standard. The JWG working group is currently working on the identification of the calculation methods and the components to be evaluated, in order to reach some common parameters and, as a result, a general method for standardization.
On 17-18 October, a meeting will be held in Frankfurt on this matter, during which the Europump working group can continue with the ever more solidly realisable challenge of uniting product performance with energy saving.
